How to Play?

First to 10 points wins.

Objective

Be the first player to earn 10 points. Points are tracked by keeping correctly placed cards in your timeline, or by collecting chips if you prefer a tactile scoring method.

Setup

  1. 1

    Shuffle the deck.

  2. 2

Each player draws 1 card and places it face up in front of them โ€” this starts their timeline.

  3. 3

Place the remaining deck face down in the center.

  4. 4

If using chips, place a supply within reach of all players.

On Your Turn

  1. 1

Draw one card from the top of the deck.

  2. 2

Scan the QR code on the back to open the surah in the app.

  3. 3

Listen to the recitation clip. You may replay it as many times as you like.

  4. 4

Place the card in your timeline where you believe it belongs in the correct order in the Quran.

  5. 5

Tap "Reveal Answer" in the app (or flip the card) to check.

Scoring

Correct placement

Keep the card in your timeline (1 point). If playing with chips, also take 1 chip.

Wrong placement

Return the card to the bottom of the deck. Your turn ends.

Challenge Rule (Optional)

A challenge is only possible when the original player places the card incorrectly. The original player always has priority โ€” if they place correctly, they keep the point with no challenge possible.

  • โœ“ Challenger correct: earns the point and adds the card to their own timeline.
  • โ†‘ Multiple challengers correct simultaneously: the first to call earns the point.
  • โœ— Challenger wrong: original player keeps the point (if they placed correctly).

Tie in a Challenge

If two challengers call at the exact same time and both are correct, the one who called first claims the card. In the event of a genuine tie, the group agrees on one of the following tiebreakers:

  1. 1 One representative per group recites the current surah โ€” whoever makes a mistake loses.
  2. 2 Still tied? Both name and recite the first surah of the next Hizb.
  3. 3 Still tied? If chips are available: both groups receive one. Otherwise, the card goes back on the deck.

Winning

Without chips โ€” first player with 10 cards correctly placed in their timeline wins.

With chips โ€” first player to collect 10 chips wins.

Tips for your first game

  • Start with a goal of 5 points if you're playing with young children or new players. It keeps rounds brisk.

  • Let beginners replay the audio clip as many times as they need. The game rewards familiarity with the Quran, so listening is never wasted.

  • If someone mixes up two surahs from the same juz, that's a great teaching moment: pause, check the answer together, and move on.

  • Keep a Quran nearby for the first few games so players can verify placements and build a mental map of the order.

  • Shorter surahs from Juz Amma are easier to identify by ear. Players who've memorised them will have a natural advantage, and that's the point.

Playing with a Hafiz or Hafizah? Use the app's Hafiz difficulty: one verse, random start position. It's a genuine test even for those who've completed the full Quran.

Variations

Solo practice: Draw cards one at a time, try to place each surah correctly, and count how many you get right before your first mistake. Try to beat your personal record.

Team mode: Divide into two teams. Each team shares a single timeline. Teams take turns drawing. A correct placement earns a point for the whole team. The opposing team may challenge. If correct, the card goes into the challenging team's shared timeline. First team to 10 wins.

No chips? No problem. Just count correct cards in each player's timeline. The physical deck is the only thing you need.
